National Firefighter’s Day, May 4
International Firefighter’s Day is annually observed on May 4. The Village of Arlington Heights Fire Department responded to more than 11,300 calls in 2023, making it one of the busiest in the region. In the community, you can find your fire department staff partnering with local schools for their annual coat drive which has collected nearly 6,000 coats for residents and students in need, or providing monthly CPR classes to residents (www.vah.com/cpr). You might also find them at on-site training exercises around town. When your Arlington Heights Fire Department isn’t on a call, they are training so they're ready if or when you need them.

National Public Service Week: May 5-11 
Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) honors the people who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees. The Village extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to the valued employees and colleagues that serve Arlington Heights. 

National Economic Development Week: May 8-12
Economic development is a process that influences growth and restructuring of an economy to enhance the economic well-being of a community. In the broadest sense, economic development encompasses policies and programs that focus on improving the business climate, business finance, marketing, neighborhood development, business retention and expansion, technology transfer, real estate development and others. 

National Police Week: May 12-18
Arlington Heights pays tribute to those who have paid the ultimate price while serving in the line of duty. Arlington Heights Police Officers that have lost their lives while serving our community are Alan J. Vargo, Herman Gaare, and Fred J. Koerber. Arlington Heights Police remain vigilant in keeping our community safe, and responded to 57,917 calls for service in 2019. To learn more about the department visit www.vah.com/police. 

National Public Works Week: May 19-25
In accordance with the tradition of the American Public Works Association, those who work in professions that provide and maintain public facilities and services are honored during National Public Works Week. Public works professionals include those who manage water, sewer, public transportation, and refuse removal systems as well as those responsible for maintaining public buildings and grounds. National EMS Week: May 19-25
