Full-Time Positions

Building & Life Safety Department | Assistant Building Official
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Building Official in the Building & Life Safety Department.

Responsibilities include but not limited to: supervising the work of permits, inspections, and licensing functions; reviews, monitors and makes recommendations about field work and operational issues; interprets and makes decisions on technical matters related to construction projects and issuance of permits, reviews drawings, plans and documents for compliance with Village Building Codes and Standards, and assists in updating Village Codes. Strong ability in customer service, training, and guiding the work of others. 

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and five years related experience including two years supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. International Code Council Certified Building Official Certification or the ability to obtain within one year. Master Code Professional Certification preferred. Valid Illinois Driver's License required. 

Minimum starting salary is $101,701. Includes excellent benefits package.

Public Works Department | Store Keeper
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Storekeeper in the Public Works Department. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), with three years of experience in storekeeping, inventory control, or recordkeeping, working in an automotive parts or general storeroom or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.  Additional Requirements: Valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License Class A with airbrake and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain within three months of date of hire, and possess ability to safely operate a forklift.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to, maintenance of the Public Works storeroom which includes collection and stocking of materials and supplies, inventory control, record and reporting and distribution as required. Receives, stores, and issues various parts, equipment, material and supplies including automotive, janitorial, water meters, clothing and small tools. Processes invoices and prepares reports of materials and supplies consumed. Performs snow and ice removal and salting as needed. Completes other duties as assigned.  

Minimum starting salary for this position is $49,905. Includes excellent benefits package.

Public Works Department | Water Distribution Foreman II
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Water Distribution Foreman II in the Public Works Department. 

Under general supervision directs and manages the operation of a unit that constructs, repairs and maintains Village water and sewer systems and related facilities. Follows the EPA Safe Drinking Water Act, AWWA Best Practices, OSHA regulations, Illinois State Plumbing Code and Village policies. Performs other duties as assigned. 

This position requires high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with extensive technical or specialized training and 4-6 or more years of experience in water. Two or more of the required years of experience to include lead work or supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. IEPA Class C Water Certification required. 

Additional requirements include possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain in six months. Must be able to respond to emergency call outs. Knowledge in trench shoring and confined space entry, methods, tools, materials and equipment used in public works construction, maintenance, repair of water and related facilities and systems. Experience in human resource management practices including interviewing, training, delegation, discipline and performance appraisals.

Part-Time and Temporary & Seasonal Positions

Finance Department
ACCOUNT CLERK

Applications are being accepted for the position of part-time Account Clerk in the Finance Department. The hours are 11:30am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Under direct supervision, this position maintains the Vehicle and Animal license database for the Village of Arlington Heights. Responsibilities include answering inquiries from residents on the phone or in person regarding Village business. Provides backup services to the Customer Service Representative and Cashiers as needed. Preferred candidate would have a working knowledge of basic clerical/mathematical practices as well as the ability to provide exceptional customer service to the public.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and a minimum of two years of experience providing clerical, accounting, and customer service skills, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Additionally requires knowledge of cash collection and cash processing procedures. Position requires effective communication and customer service skills as demonstrated by prior experience. Ability to work as a member of a team.

Qualified applicants required to complete a computerized test to create a baseline of skill level.

Minimum hourly rate is $25.59 per hour.

Senior Center

TEMPORARY ON-CALL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of temporary On-Call Administrative Assistant to fill-in at the Senior Center. This position would work on an as needed basis and the hours would vary depending on the hours of operation; Monday and Wednesday would work hours as needed between 8:00 a.m. to 8:15 p.m; Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. This position provides support by performing a variety of activities, such as word processing, data entry and miscellaneous other office duties and must demonstrate exceptional people skills. Responsibilities include coverage of the Senior Center switchboard, program registration and assistance to the Senior Center patrons. The candidate will need to effectively communicate with the Senior Center Manager, Senior Center Main Office Staff and other Agencies. Requirements include one or more years of secretarial experience, computer knowledge in Microsoft Office products, planning and organizational skills, strong work ethic and the ability to work as a member of a team.

The Village of Arlington Heights population 75,101 is looking for certified applicants to complement our Police Department. The Police Department has 109 Sworn Personnel. Officers work a 6 day on and 3 day off schedule.

Qualifications
