Director of Building and Life Safety

Pump Operator | Water & Sewer/Utilities of the Public Works Department
           
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Pump Operator in the Water & Sewer/Utilities division in the Public Works Department.

Responsibilities include monitoring water quality and performing unskilled to highly skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of the Village’s water and sewer systems.  This position ensures compliance with requirements set forth in the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Act for drinking water. 

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with two or more years in basic water operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

This position requires the candidate to obtain and maintain within one year of employment, an I.E.P.A. Class C Water Operator License.  Also, ability to become certified and/or maintain certification for presence/absence Bac-T analysis within one year of employment. Additional requirements include possession of a valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License Class A with hazmat, tanker and air brake endorsements or ability to obtain within one year of hire. CEU annual credit requirement necessary for maintenance of Class C Water Operator License.  

Additional Requirement: Candidates must also be able to respond to emergency call outs on a 24 hours basis and make judgments about the Village’s response. Carrying a Village phone and 30 minute response time is required. Participates in snow and ice control operations.

Minimum starting salary is $71,748. Includes excellent benefits package.

Part-Time Positions

Administrative Assistant | Finance Department

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for a Part-Time Administrative Assistant position to work 25 hours per week 10 AM to 3 PM Monday through Friday in the Finance Department.

This position performs diversified and confidential administrative duties of considerable difficulty and involves a high level of diplomacy dealing with internal and external contacts. Provides skilled administrative support for the department, which may include preparing correspondence, processing payments for invoices, ordering and managing office supplies. Duties also include answering multi-line incoming phones, assisting residents/visitors on the phone providing outstanding customer service.

The qualified candidate should possess a minimum of four years of experience performing a variety of administrative and secretarial responsibilities, computer knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, communication, writing and organizational skills, strong work ethic and the ability to work as a member of a team while handling highly confidential information.

Preferred candidate has a certificate or associate’s degree. Previous experience in performing financial tasks and the ability to keep routine financial records and to prepare reports. Applicant will be required to take software skills assessment tests including Microsoft Office and a typing skill test to create a baseline of skills. Minimum hourly rate is $30.92.
