Full-Time Positions

Water Meter Technician- Public Works Department

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Water Meter Technician in the Public Works Department.   

Under general supervision performs skilled and unskilled manual work in reading water meters and recording consumption, and repairs and installs residential and commercial water meters. Provides customer service to water customers including resolving complaints.  Performs plumbing repairs including pipe sweating and low voltage wiring installation. Responsible for removing and replacing manhole covers and working safely in confined spaces. Preferred candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of backflow devices. 

This position requires a High School or equivalent (G.E.D.) or a combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.  Additional requirements include possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s License. Ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License Class A within 6 months of employment. 

Must be able to respond to emergency callouts and performs snow and ice removal and salting as required. Minimum starting salary for this position is $60,29.  Includes excellent benefits package.  Qualified candidates are encouraged to submit an online application. Maintenance Worker I - Water & Sewer/Utilities 
Public Works Department 


The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Worker I in the Water & Sewer/Utilities division in the Public Works Department.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), one or more years of experience in general or municipal maintenance and repair or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Possession of a valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License Class A with airbrake and tanker endorsements is preferred or ability to obtain same within six months following date of hire.  Previous water/sewer experience preferred.  Must be able to respond to emergency call outs.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to, performing unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual work in the construction, emergency, repair, cleaning and maintenance of Village water systems and related facilities and systems. Assists in the repair and installation of water and sewer mains. Operates basic equipment and machinery. Participates in snow and ice control operations. This is a multi-level position classification. Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 40 hours per week. 

Minimum starting salary for this position is $60,297. Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited institution

  • Possess substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a Village of Arlington Heights Police Officer who has completed the probationary period, as determined by the Village, and taken and passed such examinations as the Commission deems necessary to determine fitness for duty as a police officer.
