The Village's Human Resources Department issues all notices and publications for employment opportunities for the Village of Arlington Heights. These opportunities include internships, seasonal/temporary work, as well as full and part-time employment. Our current openings are listed below.

Please note that there are three distinct employment applications; one for permanent full and part-time positions; one for seasonal, temporary and internship positions; and one for certified Police Officers. Full-Time Positions

Civil Engineer I | Public Works Department

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of full time Civil Engineer I in the Engineering Division of Public Works.

This position is responsible for the design, management and inspection of construction of public and private improvements. Responsible for balancing construction quality, costs and public impacts. Reviews permits and plans of others and ensures these are constructed to Village standards and codes. This is a multi-level classification.

Requirements include knowledge of local, state and federal engineering policies, procedures, codes and construction methods. Knowledge of good civil engineering practices in design and construction. Prepares preliminary and final plans for public improvements such as roads, storm sewers and water mains. Investigates questions and complaints from the public and resolves problems.

Additional requirements include skill in the use of applicable computer software including spreadsheets, database management, word processing, CAD and various Engineering programs. Requirements include a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and one or more years of experience in general civil engineering work or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification required or ability to obtain within 12 months from the date of hire.

Maintenance Worker I | Public Works Department

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Worker I, Street Unit, in the Public Works Department.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), one or more years of experience in general or municipal maintenance and repair or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Additional Requirements: Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A with airbrake and tanker endorsements is preferred but must be obtained within six months of hire. Must be able to respond for scheduled and unscheduled overtime due to snow events, wind storms, flooding events, water main repairs, special events, and other unforeseen emergency occurrences.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to, maintaining repairs and reconstructing Village streets, curbs, sidewalks, parking garages, and other roadway structures. Performs hot mix asphalt, concrete and paver brick sidewalk repairs. Performs snow and ice removal. Operates equipment and machinery including front-end loaders, backhoe loaders, and skid steer loaders. Operates street, sidewalk, and parking garage sweepers. May operate equipment that is more complex for extended periods of time. This is a multi-level position classification.

Minimum starting salary for this position is $58,826. Includes excellent benefits package.

Internships & Seasonal Job Openings

Intern | Human Resources Department            
The Village of Arlington Heights, Illinois, is one of the largest Chicago suburbs with a population of 75,100. The Village is seeking candidates for the temporary position of Intern in the Human Resources Department.

The Intern will be exposed to all of the functions of Human Resources including benefits, recruitment, pre-employment testing, survey and questionnaire creation, employee relations and Human Resources Information Systems. Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to deal tactfully with the public and a high level of integrity in dealing with confidential and sensitive information is essential.

Qualified candidates will be in process of obtaining a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or related field. 

Qualifications include one year of office experience, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and planning and organizational skills. 

The successful candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and have a desire to work in the field of Human Resources upon graduation.

Hours for this position will be approximately 16 hours a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) at an hourly rate of $12.00. This position will run concurrently throughout the academic year.

Qualifications
