The Village's Human Resources Department issues all notices and publications for employment opportunities for the Village of Arlington Heights.  Please note that there are three distinct employment applications; one for permanent full and part-time positions; one for seasonal, temporary and internship positions; and one for certified Police Officers. Full-Time Positions

Assistant Building Official | Building & Life Safety
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Building Official in the Building & Life Safety Department.

Responsibilities include but not limited to reviewing plans and documents for compliance with Village Building Codes. This includes all residential, commercial and industrial buildings was well as special events. Performs site inspections for general building, fire, energy, accessibility, mechanical/fuel gas, electric, property maintenance, zoning, signage, and related codes. Orders building uninhabitable or dangerous. Interprets and makes decisions on technical and administrative matters and provides support to staff, residents, business owners, design professionals and contractors relating to permit issuance. Acts as Director when requested.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and seven to ten years related experience including two years supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.  International Code Council Certified Building Official Certification or the ability to obtain within one year. Master Code Professional Certification preferred. Valid Illinois Driver's License required.  

Salary Range of $111,846 – $122,000 DOQ and includes a diverse and competitive benefits package. Residency is not required.

Pump Operator – Water & Sewer/Utilities
Public Works Department
           
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Pump Operator in the Water & Sewer/Utilities division in the Public Works Department.

Responsibilities include monitoring water quality and performing unskilled to highly skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of the Village’s water and sewer systems.  This position ensures compliance with requirements set forth in the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Act for drinking water. 

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with two or more years in basic water operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

This position requires the candidate to obtain and maintain within one year of employment, an I.E.P.A. Class C Water Operator License.  Also, ability to become certified and/or maintain certification for presence/absence Bac-T analysis within one year of employment. Additional requirements include possession of a valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License Class A with hazmat, tanker and air brake endorsements or ability to obtain within one year of hire. CEU annual credit requirement necessary for maintenance of Class C Water Operator License.  

Additional Requirement: Candidates must also be able to respond to emergency call outs on a 24 hours basis and make judgements about the Village’s response. Carrying a Village phone and 30 minute response time is required. Employees will work a non-traditional work schedule to include working a standard number of work hours on an assigned rotating shift basis, that may change monthly. Participates in snow and ice control operations.

Minimum starting salary is $73,398. Includes a diverse and competitive benefits package.

Arlington Heights Offers

  • Starting salary range based upon experience as of January 1, 2021, $81,164 - $89,435. Top pay of $108,613 reached in three to four years;
  • Longevity pay reached after five years of service;

Qualifications
  • An Associate degree OR 60 hours of college credit from an accredited institution OR 24 months of honorable military service OR 180 days of military combat duty;
  • Have vision correctable to 20/20;
  • Be a U.S. citizen and have a valid Illinois driver’s license;
  • Pass oral interview, background investigation, polygraph, psychological exam, and medical exam, including a drug screening.
  • Status as a certified Police Officer in the State of Illinois for one year after completion of a probationary period. In good standing in the police department in which the person currently serves.
  • Possess substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a Village of Arlington Heights Police Officer who has completed the probationary period, as determined by the Village, and taken and passed such examinations as the Commission deems necessary to determine fitness for duty as a police officer.
  • Length of selection process varies based on vacancies. Customarily, the process takes 4-6 months.
  • Applicants may reapply after six months if not selected.
